The Journey Begins

This page is the beginning of my journey to reach a dream.  It’s a dream I’ve had since I was a kid.  One that has stayed locked away until now.  A year ago, I decided to learn more about drawing and writing.  Funny thing is, I ordered a couple DVD Classes, and bought art supplies.  And haven’t finished the first lesson.  Life interrupted my plans last year, but there’s nothing saying I can’t pick it up now.  

I have been reading, reading, researching, reading, and researching lots of things until I found the best advice of all – just start writing.  So I did, and here we are. 

I’m a firm believer that sometimes we’re guided towards things, people, events, lessons, etc.  Last fall while traveling through western Nebraska after visiting our beautiful granddaughter in Colorado, we stopped at a state tourism shack.  Here is what I found:

Reading this anthology led me to google the Nebraska Writers Guild.  I liked what I saw, and decided to join.  That was a smart move.  After joining, I enrolled in the three day conference they had for spring, and I’m excited beyond belief.  There were so many people with the same dream as I have, many whom have taken the plunge and self published a book or several.

I come from a family of voracious readers.  My dad read constantly. My mom still does despite low vision.   I loved reading to my kids.  Our grandkids stare at me in disbelief when I go into different voices for characters from their books, but then they say, “Grandma, do it again!”  Reading should be fun.
At this point in time, it’s very difficult to name a genre I write.  I have one children’s book in it’s second edit and one grown up novel with 31K words so far.  (No, grown up doesn’t mean anything XXX or 50 Shades of Anything.  It simply means grownups vs children’s). Just want to keep that straight from the get go.  

It’s exciting and intimidating, scary and stimulating, joyous and time consuming.  I was fortunate to have a great mentor in the business world.  His best advice to me was to learn to create opportunities.  I’ve never forgotten that advice, and this opportunity is going to be so much fun.  Join me along this wonderful, magical, adventure.  I appreciate your time so much.
